After the successful completion of their first round commitments, the three softball teams met again on Sunday 29th October for a one day tournament.
The first game saw the Mustangs square off against the Mellieha Curves. Mustangs won the first round encounter 19 to 5, however yesterday Mustangs had to work much harder to overcome the resistance of the Mellieha team. Mustangs emerged victorious with the final score of 13 to 9 after 5 hard fought innings.
The match was very balanced from the beginning. First inning ended with the Mellieha Curves leading 3 – 2, however in the second inning Mustangs scored 5 runs to take a 7 – 3 lead. Mellieha immediately replied with 5 runs in the third inning to retake the lead. During the fourth inning Mustangs scored two runs whilst Mellieha could only manage 1 run so that the game was tied at 9. It was at this stage that the Mustangs used their experience to take control of the game. They scored four runs with their turn at bat and then managed to shut down the Mellieha team offence for the second time in the game to emerge victorious 13 – 9.
