2nd MALTESE PLAYER FOR ITALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

7th May 2009

On the 9th May, a second Maltese player will be joining his new team in the Italian Serie B baseball league. Clint Grima was chosen by Lodi, a team just south of Milan playing in the Serie B division. Grima is the second Maltese baseball player chosen this season to play for an Italian team.

Grima first traveled to Italy in April so that the club could evaluate him during training sessions and whilst in Italy also traveled with the Lodi Baseball team for their league matches in Turin.

Grima’s achievements include being chosen for all 5 of Malta’s U21 European Championship matches during 2006 held in Italy and again for all 4 matches played by the Senior National Team in the European Qualifiers in Antwerp last year. During the Antwerp Qualifiers Grima was also awarded 1st place in the tournament for most stolen bases.

Local Baseball supporters will be looking forward to the 13th June when Lodi BC and CIEMME-MALLER OLTRETORRENTE (the team where the other Maltese player is playing) will face each other. It would be the first time that Michael Bartolo, who plays for Oltretorrente and Grima will be on opposing teams in their playing careers.
